General description

Porapak porous polymers are spherical beads with consistent particle size, porosity, and surface area that help to insure analytical precision and accuracy.

For more information about any of our adsorbents, please visit sigma-aldrich.com/adsorbents
Porous polymers are the most suitable adsorbent for applications based on the analysis of gases, acids, amines, organics of low carbon number and water.[1] They are best suited for gas chromatography and are basically copolymers of polydivinylbenzene (DVB) which are very porous in nature ranging from mesoporous to microporous.[2] Porapak T is a porous polymer composed of ethylene glycol methacrylate (EGDMA).[3] Furthermore, it was found to exhibit strong interaction with the oxygen atom in alcohols, ethers and ketones.[4]

Application

Porapak T maybe used for selective separation of aromatic hydrocarbons and their partially hydrogenated derivatives by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and liquid chromatography (LC).[5]

  4. What does the 80/100 stand for in the product description?

    1 answer
    1. The 80/100 refers to the mesh size range of the actual particles.  When working with mesh size: the larger the mesh number, the smaller the diameter of the particle.  In this case 80 refers to a diameter of 177 microns and 100 refers to a diameter of 149 microns.  Therefore; the particles in this product with 80/100 will range between 149 microns and 177 microns.
