Gene Information

General description

Vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) , also known as solute carrier family 18 member A2 (SLC18A2), is a transmembrane protein that acts at nerve terminals. It is expressed in platelets and in central, peripheral and enteric neurons. The gene encoding VMAT2 consists of 16 exons and is mapped to human chromosome 10q25.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding an internal sequence of human VMAT2. This sequence is identical in mouse and rat.

Application

Anti-VMAT2 antibody produced in rabbit has also been used in immunofluorescence.
Anti-VMAT2 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in western blot analysis.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) modulates the release of neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin and γ-amino butyric acid. It has a role in the accumulation of neurotransmitters in synaptic vesicles to prevent toxicity. VMAT2 has been linked to tardive dyskinesia and may be associated with Parkinson′s disease.

Physical form

solution in phosphate buffered saline, containing 0.02% sodium azide.

The objective of this study was to examine the cross-sectional relationship between the expression of norepinephrine transporter (NET), the protein responsible for neuronal uptake-1, and indices of glycaemia and hyperinsulinaemia, in overweight and obese individuals. Thirteen non-medicated, non-smoking subjects, aged
