Gene Information

human ... IL32(9235)

General description

Human IL-32α is one of approximately 6 splice variants of a gene cloned from the human lung carcinoma stable transfectant, A549-Rβ. IL-32α has been shown to induce IL-8, TNF-α, and MIP-2 production from human and mouse macrophage cell lines. It is up-regulated in activated T- and NK-cells, and IFN-g-treated epithelial cells. Human recombinant IL-32α produced in E. coli is a 131 amino acid non-glycosylated polypeptide with a molecular mass of 14.9 kDa.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Interleukin-32 (IL-32) is a proinflammatory cytokine. It stimulates the generation of interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α. It also has a role in cell apoptosis and immune responses. IL32 has been associated with inflammatory diseases.[1][2][3]
