General description

3-Hydroxyolean-12-en-30-oate (HENA) is a triterpenoid.[1] It is a non steroidal compound having structural similarities with lithocholic acid, a cholane steroid.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

HENA (3-Hydroxyolean-12-en-30-oate) specifically activates large conductance, voltage- and Ca2+-gated K+ (BK) channels containing KCNMB1 (β1) subunits (EC50 = 53 μM). BK/β1 channels are expressed predominantly in smooth muscle. HENA induces vasodilation in rodent models.
HENA ia a β1 subunit-selective Ca2+ / voltage-gated K+ (BK) channel activator.
