Biochem/physiol Actions

6-(1,3-Dioxo-6-(piperidin-1-yl)-1H-benzo[de]isoquinolin-2(3H)-yl)hexanoic acid is an inhibitor of influenza A virus virulence factor NS1 through activation of host expression of the mTORC1 inhibitor REDD1 ((regulated in development and DNA damage responses. REDD1 induction inhibits mTORC1 by preventing the inactivation of the TSC1–TSC2 complex by AKT1 and, thus, blocks activation of the mTORC1 pathway.

Regulated in DNA damage and development 1 (REDD1) induction promotes autophagy-mediated neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) release from neutrophils in familial mediterranean fever (FMF) patients during remission.[1] Insulin is also one of the known inducers of REDD1 transcription.[2]
