General description

POU class 5 homeobox 1 (POU5F1), also known as OCT-3, OCT-4, and OCT 3/4, is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 6p21.33. This octamer‐binding protein is expressed in adult human stem cells, immortalized nontumorigenic cells, and tumor cells and cell lines. POU5F1 belongs to the POU family of transcription factors.

Application

Imprint® ChIP-Validated Monoclonal Anti-POU5F1 (Oct4) antibody produced in mouse has been used in chromatin immune precipitation experiment.

Biochem/physiol Actions

POU class 5 homeobox 1 (POU5F1) regulates pluripotency in mammalian cells. In addition, it also acts as a reprogramming factor and aids in the derivation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. POU5F1 gene mutation causes lung adenocarcinoma.
