Gene Information

human ... GYPA(2993)

General description

Glycophorin A (GYPA), also known as CD235a, is an integral membrane sialoglycoprotein, expressed exclusively in erythrocytes. GYPA is characterized with a cytoplasmic tail at the c-terminal end, involved in enhancing trafficking of band 3 to the cell surface, and an N-terminal transmembrane domain involved in increasing the specific activity of band 3 for anion transport. N- glycan of hGYPA consists of ABH blood group antigen.

Immunogen

Synthetic peptide (Human, N-terminal)

Application

The reagent is designed for Flow Cytometry analysis of human blood cells using 0.1 μg reagent / 1e6 cells in a suspension

Biochem/physiol Actions

CD235a circulating microparticles might act as a unique systemic biomarker of ongoing formation of thrombi. Increased expression of GYPA is an indication of intra-plaque hemorrhage and it is associated with necrotic cores and macrophage infiltration in coronary atheromas. Human glycophorin A (GPA) facilitates the band 3 anion transport activity at the cell surface within a limited time span during erythroid maturation.
