Cluster of differentiation 48 (CD48) molecule, also known as BLAST1, is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 1q23.3. CD48 is a glycosyl-phosphatidyl-inositol (GPI)-anchored cell-surface protein of immunoglobulin superfamily. The encoded protein is expressed on various hematopoietic cells.
The antibody MEM-102 reacts with CD48 antigen (Blast-1), a 40-47 kDa GPI-anchored membrane protein (immunoglobulin supergene family) widely expressed on hematopoietic cells; it is negative on granulocytes, platelets and erythrocytes.
Immunogen
Raji human Burkitt′s lymphoma cell line
Application
The reagent is designed for Flow Cytometry analysis. Suggested working dilution for Flow Cytometry is 2 μg/mL of sample. Indicated dilution is recommended starting point for use of this product. Working concentrations should be determined by the investigator.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Cluster of differentiation 48 (CD48) acts as an adhesion and co-stimulatory molecule and stimulates various effects in B and T lymphocytes, natural killer cells, mast cells and eosinophils. CD48 interacts with its ligand CD2 and other molecules and promotes rearrangement of signaling factors in lipid rafts, Lck-kinase activity and tyrosine phosphorylation.
