Gene Information

human ... SP1(6667)

General description

Specific protein 1 (Sp1) is a transcription regulator that has a transactivation domain at the N-terminus and a DNA-binding domain at the C-terminus, that contains three zinc fingers (ZF).[1] It belongs to the transcription factor family (3) and is located on human chromosome 12q13.[2]

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human SP1 around the phosphorylation site of Thr739.

Immunogen Range: 706-755

Application

Anti-phospho-SP1 (pThr739) antibody has been used in western blotting and immunohistochemical staining.[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Specific protein 1 (Sp1) controls the up- and down-regulation of hCtr1 (human high-affinity copper transporter 1).[1] This gene controls the expression of several genes that participates in differentiation, cell cycle and oncogenesis. SP1 has the ability to bind GC/GT‐rich promoter elements with the help of C(2)H(2)‐type zinc fingers at the C‐terminal domains.[4]

Skeletal muscle regeneration relies on satellite cells that can proliferate, differentiate, and form new myofibers upon injury. Emerging evidence suggests that misregulation of satellite cell fate and function influences the severity of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). The transcription factor Pax7
