General description

Mitogen-activated protein kinase 8 interacting protein 1/JNK interacting protein 1 (JIP-1) is a pivotal scaffolding protein. It is also termed as islet brain 1 (IB1). It is present in the brain and islets. JIP1 gene is located on human chromosome 11p11.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human JIP1 around the phosphorylation site of Thr103.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Mitogen-activated protein kinase 8 interacting protein 1/JNK interacting protein 1 (JIP-1) controls the c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) activity involved in cell differentiation, division and death. This gene may help to mediate mitogenic messages from the plasma membrane to the cell interior. JIP-1 also controls the JNK pathway in neuronal and beta-cells.
