Insulin receptor (INSR) is located on human chromosome 19. It has 22 exons spanning 120 kilobases. The gene product of INSR has a leader sequence of 27 amino acids.
Immunogen
The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human IR around the phosphorylation site of Tyr1355.
Immunogen Range: 1326-1375
Biochem/physiol Actions
Insulin binds to its receptor (INSR) or to the structurally related insulin-like growth factor-I receptor (IGFIR) to control the development and apoptosis of cells. Aberrations in exon 17 of insulin receptor (INSR) gene result in PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). It plays a key role in insulin metabolism. Mutations in INSR results in insulin-resistant syndromes like leprechaunism (donohue syndrome), rabson–mendenhall syndrome and type A insulin resistance.
