Gene Information

human ... IL6(3569)

General description

Interleukin-6 (IL6) is a multifunctional cytokine. The gene is located on the human chromosome at 7p15.3. IL6 is found in many supplemental cloning media.

Specificity

Anti-IL6 specifically recognizes human IL6.

Immunogen

recombinant IL6

Application

Anti-IL6 antibody produced in rabbit may be used in immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Interleukin-6 (IL6) plays a wide variety of biological roles in the immune , nervous and endocrine systems. It is involved as a primary regulator of acute and chronic inflammatory diseases. IL6 is a target for clinical treatment against autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and Castleman′s disease. It also plays a key role in the pathogenesis of myeloma. IL6 levels are higher in patients with different kinds of malignant disease. Elevated circulating levels of IL6 is considered as a biomarker for acute coronary syndrome (ACS), cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attack and stroke and unstable angina. It is an essential component of hybridoma growth.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2–8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, freeze in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilution samples should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.
