Gene Information

human ... CLDN4(1364)

General description

Claudin-4 is heterogeneously expressed in various tissues. It is enriched in endothelial cells (ECs), including the blood-brain barrier, and is also expressed in gut and kidney. It is mapped to human chromosome 7q11.23. Claudin-4 is associated with the tight junction strands in kidney epithelial cells.

Specificity

Anti-Claudin-4 (C-terminal) specifically recognizes human, rat and dog claudin-4.

Application

Anti-Claudin-4 (C-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in:
  • immunoblotting
  • immunofluorescence
  • immunohistochemistry

Biochem/physiol Actions

Claudin-4 is involved in maintaining cellular polarity. It favors sodium chloride absorption and acts as a cation-barrier. Claudin-4 expression has been shown to be deregulated in several cancers, with aberrant expression in ovarian, breast, prostate and pancreatic carcinomas. The gene location of claudin-4 is a Williams-Beuren syndrome critical region.

Physical form

Supplied as a solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, freeze in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing, or storage in “frost-free” freezers, is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilutions should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.
