Gene Information

General description

Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) protein is a member of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) superfamily. BMP4 gene is located at 14q22.2 on the human chromosome.

Specificity

Anti-BMP4 (N-terminal) specifically recognizes human BMP4.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the N-terminal region of human BMP4, conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence is identical in rat and mouse BMP4.

Application

Anti-BMP4 (N-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit may be used in immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) protein is involved in the regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation. It is also involved in apoptosis and determination of cell fate during development. BMP4 plays a role in the regulation of mesodermal cell commitment to the hematopoietic cell lineage during early embryogenesis. Overexpression of BMP4 gene has been reported in several cancers, including melanoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and colorectal cancer. It is frequently accompanied by an enhanced cell migratory and invasive potential of the tumors.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, freeze in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing, or storage in “frost-free” freezers,is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilutions should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.
