Description

General description

Conserved oligomeric Golgi complex 8 (COG8) belongs to the COG complex. COG complex is a conserved multi-subunit protein complex. COG complex is composed of eight distinct subunits organized in two heterotrimeric groups, COG-2,-3,-4 and COG-5,-6,-7, which are linked via a dimeric group formed by COG1 and COG8. COG8 is located on the human chromosome at 16q22.1.

Specificity

Anti-COG8 (N-terminal) recognizes human COG8.

Immunogen

a peptide corresponding to the N-terminal region of human COG8, conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence differs by a single amino acid in rat and mouse COG8.

Application

Anti-COG8 (N-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit may be used in immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Conserved oligomeric Golgi (COG) complex regulates membrane trafficking and maintenance of Golgi glycosylation machinery in eukaryotic cells. Mutations in the COG8 gene causes congenital disorder of glycosylation, type IIh, characterized by under-glycosylated serum proteins. The symptoms include severe psychomotor retardation, failure to thrive, seizures, and dairy and wheat product intolerance.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage freeze in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilution samples should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.
