General description

Synaptotagmin7 (SYT7) belongs to the synaptotagmin gene family. It codes for and encodes a single-pass 46-kDa transmembrane protein and is located on human chromosome11q12.2. Syt7 contains a single transmembrane domain, a variable linker sequence and C2A and C2B Ca2+-binding domains. It is ubiquitously expressed during development, but is later restricted to dividing cells, postmitotic neurons and neuroendocrine cells.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence located near the C-terminus of human synaptotagmin 7 (Syt7), conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence is identical in rat and mouse Syt7.

Application

Anti-Synaptotagmin 7 (C-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting (~45 kDa).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Synaptotagmin7 (SYT7) helps to facilitate the calciumdependent modulation of membrane trafficking during synaptic transmission. It has been proposed to regulate different types of Ca2+ -dependent exocytosis. Syt7 has been proposed to play a key role in the regulation of Ca2+- dependent lysosome exocytosis. Knockout of Syt7 in mice results in impaired insulin secretion and glucose intolerance.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
