Gene Information

human ... YY1(7528)
rat ... Yy1(24919)

General description

The Yin Yang-1 (YY1) gene is mapped to human chromosome 14q32.2 and encodes a ubiquitous and conserved transcription factor. It is a Gli-Kruppel type zinc finger protein containing four C2H2-type zinc-finger motifs and two specific domains as an activator or a repressor. It belongs to the polycomb group protein family. Alternative splicing of this gene yields eight different transcripts.

Specificity

Anti-YY1 (N-terminal) recognizes human YY1.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to the N- terminal region of human YY1, conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence is identical in rat.

Application

Anti-YY1 (N-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

The N-terminus region of Yin Yang-1 (YY1) protein controls the activation, repression and protein-protein interaction functions. The YY1 protein is shown to regulate several genes including viral and cellular genes. It is essential for cell growth, development, differentiation and tumor suppression. The YY1 gene is found to be upregulated in association with cellular proliferation, resistance to Fas ligand-mediated apoptosis, tumorigenesis and metastatic prostate cancer. YY1 is closely associated with hematopoiesis and cell cycle control.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, freeze in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing, or storage in “frost-free” freezers,is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilutions should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.

YY2 was originally identified due to its unusual similarity to the evolutionarily well-conserved zinc finger gene YY1. In this study, we have determined the evolutionary origin and conservation of YY2 using comparative genomic approaches. Our results indicate that YY2 is
