Gene Information

human ... ADIPOQ(9370)

General description

Adiponectin (ADIPOQ) gene is mapped to human chromosome 3q27.3. The gene codes for a 244 amino acid protein with four distinct regions. ADIPOQ is secreted by the adipocytes and is a most abundant circulating hormone.

Immunogen

ADIPOQ purified recombinant protein

Biochem/physiol Actions

Adiponectin (ADIPOQ) is an adipocyte specific secreted protein that circulates in the plasma. The protein has a C-terminal globular domain and an NH2-terminal collagen domain. It has anti-atherosclerotic and anti-inflammatory properties. ADIPOQ has a role in physiological processes such as energy homeostasis and obesity. It exhibits anti-diabetic action by interacting with adiponectin receptors, AdipoR1 and AdipoR2. Low levels of adiponectin are also linked with hypertension and dyslipidemia. Mutation in the gene encoding it is linked with risk for endometrial cancer.

Solution in Dulbecco′s Modified Eagle′s Medium with 10% fetal calf serum and 15 mM sodium azide.
