ZIP6 is encoded by SLC39A6 (solute carrier family 39 member 6) gene. The gene has ten exons and 20864 bases. It is a multi-pass membrane protein and has a molecular weight of 85 kDa. ZIP6 is expressed at high levels in normal breast tissue, prostate, placenta, kidney, pituitary and corpus callosum. This gene is located on human chromosome 18q12.2.
Immunogen
ZIP6 antibody was raised against a 16 amino acid peptide near the center of human ZIP6.
Biochem/physiol Actions
ZIP6 (ZIP metal ion transporter family) controls the expression level of E-cadherin. It serves as a zinc influx transporter. SLC39A6 participates in the cellular invasion of HeLa cells by modulating the snail and slug expression mediated by ERK (extracellular signal–regulated kinase).
