Gene Information

human ... ANGPT2(285)

General description

The ANGPT2 (angiopoietin 2) gene is mapped to 8p23.1.[1] The encoded protein belongs to the family of angiogenic factors.[2]

Immunogen

Recombinant protein fragment contain a sequence corresponding to a region within amino acids 1 and 515 of Angiopoietin 2 according to NP_001138

Application

Suggested starting dilutions are as follows: IHC-P: 1:100-1:1000, WB: 1:500-1:3000. Not yet tested in other applications. Optimal working dilutions should be determined experimentally by the end user.

Biochem/physiol Actions

The protein encoded by the ANGPT2 (angiopoietin 2) gene is an antagonist of angiopoietin 1 (ANGPT1) and endothelial TEK tyrosine kinase (TIE-2, TEK). The encoded protein disrupts the vascular remodeling ability of ANGPT1 and may induce endothelial cell apoptosis. Three transcript variants encoding three different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]Ang-2 influences vascular stability by acting as a competitive antagonist of Ang-1.[2] The agonistic function of Ang-2 is essential for lymphatic vascular formation.[3] Overexpression of ANGPT2 is observed in liver cancer and cirrhosis and it induces cell proliferation. It also serves as an important biomarker for liver cancer.[2] Ang-2 stimulates angiogenesis contributing to pathogenesis and progression of a number of chronic liver diseases.[4]
