General description

Natriuretic peptide receptor 3 (NPR3) is a natriuretic peptide receptor. It is expressed in endothelial cells, vessels, endocrine glands, lungs and kidneys. The gene encoding NPR3 is localized on human chromosome 5p14-p13. The protein consists of a 450-amino acid extracellular ligand-binding domain, a transmembrane region and a cytoplasmic tail.

Immunogen

Peptide with sequence C-HRELREDSIRSHFS, from the C-terminal region of the protein sequence according toNP_000899.1

Application

Anti-NPR3 (C-terminal) antibody produced in goat has been used in Western blotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Natriuretic peptide receptor 3 (NPR3) has a role in the clearance of natriuretic peptides and modulates their plasma levels. It is associated with essential hypertension. NPR3 may be involved in signaling pathways and is associated with inhibitory G protein.

Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is a cardiac hormone controlling blood volume and pressure in mammals. It is still unclear whether ANP controls cold-induced thermogenesis in vivo. Here, we show that acute cold exposure induces cardiac ANP secretion in mice and humans.
