NEFM (neurofilament, medium polypeptide) is a highly available cytoskeleton intermediate filament (IF) protein in post-mitotic neurons. It is mapped to human chromosome 8q21. It is abundantly present in the nervous system. In human, the protein has 13 carboxy-terminal domains with phosphorylation sites.
Immunogen
Peptide with sequence CQASHITVERKDYLK, from the internal region of the protein sequence according to NP_005373.2; NP_001099011.1.
Application
Anti-NEFM antibody produced in goat is suitable for indirect ELISA and western blot analysis.
Biochem/physiol Actions
NEFM (neurofilament, medium polypeptide) protein is involved in the axonal transport and neuronal cell apoptosis. Phosphorylation of NEFM allows the association between NEFM and microtubules. Deregulated phosphorylation of NEFM is associated with Alzheimer disease (AD). From gene mutation analysis, it has been predicted that NEFM may be a susceptibility factor for the Parkinson′s disease (PD).

Numerous germline genetic variants are associated with prostate cancer risk, but their biologic role is not well understood. One possibility is that these variants influence gene expression in prostate tissue. We therefore examined the association of prostate cancer risk variants
Neurofilament M, a major component of Lewy bodies, represents an interesting candidate in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). We performed detailed mutation analyses of the NF-M gene in 322 familial and sporadic PD patients. Two polymorphisms (Ala475Thr and Gly697Arg)

The human neurofilament medium (hNFM) subunit is one of the 3 neurofilament (NF) polypeptides, which are the most abundant intermediate filament (IF) proteins in post-mitotic neurons. The formation of neurofilamentous aggregates is a pathological hallmark of many neurodegenerative diseases, including
