Description

General description

MAP3K7 (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase 7) gene encodes a serine/threonine protein kinase that is ubiquitously expressed. It is activated by transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and BMP (bone morphogenetic protein) and mediates cellular functions such as transcription regulation and apoptosis. It functions in the p38 and janus kinase (JNK) signaling pathways and also plays an important role in balancing the BMP- and Wnt-signaling pathways. It mediates JNK pathway induced by environmental stresses. It is essential for nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) activation. MAP3K7 gene has been mapped to human chromosome 6q15. Deletions in this region have been observed in cases of prostate cancer indicating its role as a tumor suppressor.
