Gene Information

General description

Renalase (RNLS) is an intracellular flavin adenine dinucleotide-dependent amine oxidase. This flavoprotein′s amino-terminal peptide sequence is necessary for FAD accommodation. It is secreted by the kidney into the blood. RNLS is also expressed in the heart, skeletal muscle and small intestine. The gene encoding this protein consists of nine exons and is localized on human chromosome 10q23.33.

Immunogen

Peptide with sequence C-VSIDNKKRNI from the internal region of the protein sequence according to NP_001026879.1; NP_060833.1.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Renalase (RNLS) modulates blood pressure and cardiac activities. It reduces circulating catecholamines. Patients with end-stage renal disease have reduced concentrations of renalase in the plasma.
