Gene Information

human ... DUSP1(1843)

General description

Dual specificity phosphatase 1 (DUSP1) is a protein phosphatase. The gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 5q35.1.

Immunogen

Peptide with sequence SYLQSPITTSPSC from the C Terminus of the protein sequence according to NP_004408.1.

Application

Anti-DUSP1 antibody produced in goat has been used for Western blotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Dual specificity phosphatase 1 (DUSP1) modulates the activity of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). It targets and dephosphorylates extracellular signal-regulated kinases 1 and 2 (ERK 1/2). During cellular responses to oxidative stress, the activity of DUSP1 is regulated by p53. Overexpression of the protein has been associated with various tumors.

Microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (mPGES-1) is an inducible enzyme situated downstream of cyclo-oxygenase-2, promoting the excessive PGE2 production in inflammation. Dexamethasone is known to suppress mPGES-1 but the mechanisms regulating mPGES-1 expression remain poorly known. MKP-1 is a phosphatase controlling

3',5'-Cyclic nucleotide PDE4 is expressed in several inflammatory and immune cells, and PDE4 catalyses the hydrolysis of cAMP to 5'AMP, down-regulating cAMP signalling in cells. MAPK phosphatase-1 (MKP-1) is an endogenous p38 MAPK signalling suppressor and limits inflammatory gene expression

Microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (mPGES-1) catalyses the formation of PGE2 in inflammatory tissues. It is considered a potential drug target in inflammatory conditions to achieve clinical benefits comparable to NSAIDs with a better tolerability. Inhibitors of mPGES-1 are under development
