Gene Information

General description

Luteinizing hormone (LH) is secreted by the gonadotrophic cells, localized in the anterior pituitary gland. Human LH consists of an α and β subunit, which are encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 6q12–q21 and 19q13.32 respectively.

Immunogen

Native purified human Luteinizing Hormone from human pituitary glands.
Mouse monoclonal antibody raised against Luteinizing Hormone.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Luteinizing hormone (LH) along with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), plays an essential role in the reproductive cycle. It facilitates follicular maturation, ovulation induction and also early pregnancy. LH can also be used as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for infertility. Elevated urinary excretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) has been observed in patients with Turner′s syndrome and Klinefelter′s syndrome.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4

Luteinizing hormone (LH) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) are widely recognized for their roles in ovulation and the support of early pregnancy. Aside from the timing of expression, however, the differences between LH and hCG have largely been overlooked in
