Gene Information

human ... FOLR3(2352)

General description

Folate receptor 3 (FOLR3) gene encodes a member of the folate receptor (FOLR) family, members of which have a high affinity for folic acid and for several reduced folic acid derivatives, and mediate delivery of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate to the interior of cells. This gene includes two polymorphic variants; the shorter one has two base deletion in the CDS, resulting in a truncated polypeptide, compared to the longer one. Both protein products are constitutively secreted in hematopoietic tissues and are potential serum marker for certain hematopoietic malignancies. The longer protein has a 71% and 79% sequence homology with the FOLR1 and FOLR2 proteins, respectively(provided by RefSeq).
Folate receptor 3 (FOLR3) is a secreted protein, which is expressed mainly in hematopoietic tissues. FOLR3 gene is located on human chromosome 11q13.4. FOLR3 gene is 4.2 kb in size.

FOLR3 (AAI48786.1, 1 a.a. ~ 245 a.a) full-length human protein.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Folate receptor 3 (FOLR3) is a potential marker for hematopoietic malignancies. FOLR3 may regulate stem cell senescence. FOLR3 binds to folate with high affinity to mediate cellular uptake of folate.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4
