PGAM5 is a unique member of the phosphoglycerate mutase (PGAM) family of glycolytic enzymes which catalyzes reactions involving the transfer of phospho groups from carbon atoms of phosphoglycerate. Unlike the family, PGAM5 dephosphorylates proteins rather than small molecular substrates.
