Gene Information

human ... FAM83A(84985)

General description

The gene family with sequence similarity 83 member A (FAM83A) is mapped to human chromosome 8q24. It is overexpressed in lung, testis and bladder cancer.[1] The protein has DUF1669 (domain of unknown function 1669), serine-rich domains and proline-rich domains (PRDs).[2]

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 232-245 of human FAM83A

Application

Anti-FAM83A (232-245) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in Western blotting.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Family with sequence similarity 83 member A (FAM83A) is a cancer associated gene. It is upregulated in breast cancer and is associated with resistance to EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor)–tyrosine kinase inhibitors.[2] It associates with c-RAF (serine/threonine protein kinase) and phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase p85, thereby resulting in the activation of EGFR/phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase/AKT (serine/threonine kinase) signaling route.[1]

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
