Gene Information

human ... VCP(7415)

General description

Valosin containing protein (VCP/ p97), a cytosolic protein, has 806 amino acids and is abundantly expressed in the brain. VCP belongs to the AAA (ATPase associated with various cellular activities) ATPase family. VCP gene is mapped to human chromosome 9p13.3.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 311-325 of human VCP

Application

Anti-VCP (311-325) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in western blotting.[1]
Yale Center for High Throughput Cell Biology IF-tested antibodies. Each antibody is tested by immunofluorescence against HUVEC cells using the Yale HTCB IF protocol. To learn more about us and Yale Center for High Throughput Cell Biology partnership, visit sigma.com/htcb-if.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Valosin containing protein (VCP/ p97) serves as segregase or unfoldase for conformational changes of target proteins. It participates in transcriptional control, endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD), homotypic membrane fusion, autophagy and endosomal sorting. It also regulates the cell cycle and degradation of protein at the outer mitochondrial membrane. Mutations on VCP gene results in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Valosin-containing protein (VCP), also called p97, is an evolutionarily conserved and ubiquitously expressed ATPase with diverse cellular functions. Dominant mutations in VCP are found in a late-onset multisystem degenerative proteinopathy. The neurological manifestations of the disorder include frontotemporal dementia (FTD)
