Biochem/physiol Actions

N-Salicyloyltryptamine (STP) is a central nervous system depressant that inhibits the transient outward and sustained K+ current in neuroendocrine cells. This decreases the ability of neuronal cells to generate action potential.1,3 STP is has immunomodulatory effects as it inhibits the activation of ERK 1/2 and NF-κB.4
Activator of calcium-activated K+ channels; anticonvulsant and neuroprotectant.

Nanomaterials (Basel, Switzerland), 10(7) (2020-07-08)
Identifying, counting and measuring particles is an important component of many research studies. Images with particles are usually processed by hand using a software ruler. Automated processing, based on conventional image processing methods (edge detection, segmentation, etc.) are not universal

Tobacco control, 24(1), 38-42 (2014-07-13)
We propose a novel approach for measuring tobacco use in a community through the chemical analysis of nicotine metabolites in urban wastewater. It offers frequent monitoring and 'real-time', 'evidence-based' estimates of tobacco consumption which may complement epidemiological surveillance systems normally

Cancer epidemiology, biomarkers & prevention : a publication of the American Association for Cancer Research, cosponsored by the American Society of Preventive Oncology, 29(10), 1887-1903 (2020-03-11)
The key characteristics (KC) of human carcinogens provide a uniform approach to evaluating mechanistic evidence in cancer hazard identification. Refinements to the approach were requested by organizations and individuals applying the KCs. We assembled an expert committee with knowledge of

Patients affected by angioedema due to hereditary and acquired C1-inhibitor (C1-INH) deficiency (HAE and AAE, respectively) report trouble accessing dental care, due to the risk of a life-threatening oropharyngeal and laryngeal attack triggered by dental procedures. The aim of this

The need for biomarkers which can predict disease course and treatment response in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is evident. We explored whether clinical and imaging responses to biologic disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug treatment (bDMARD) were associated with the individual's mediator production
