General description
The antibody pair provided in this kit recognizes Human Hemoglobin. Hemoglobin (Hb) is an iron-containing metalloprotein, which is highly expressed in red blood cells. In addition, it is also expressed in nonerythroid cells such as epithelial cells of different origin. Hb is a tetramer composed of two α-globin chains and two β-globin chains. α-globin and β-globin chains is encoded by a gene mapped to human chromosome 16 and 11, respectively.

Biochem/physiol Actions
Hemoglobin (Hb) serves as the primary means of oxygen transport in vertebrates. Hb exhibits antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. Alterations in blood hemoglobin levels occur in many diseases such as anemia and polycythemia. In addition, abnormalities in Hb concentration might be implicated in pathologies associated with various respiratory diseases, such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD).
