Gene Information

human ... APOE(348)

General description

The ApoE2 ELISA kit provides for the quantitative measurement of ApoE2 in cell culture supernatants, plasma and serum.
The APOE gene is mapped to human chromosome 19q13.32 and codes for a 299 amino acid protein.[1][2] The APOE protein is localised to the brain and liver. In the central nervous system, APOE is mostly produced by astrocytes and neurons to a lesser extent.[1]

Application

For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
Please refer to the attached General ELISA KIT Procedure (sandwich, competitive & Indirect ELISA)

Biochem/physiol Actions

APOE is responsible for the translocation of cholesterol and phospholipids to the cells. APOE is known to be associated with neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases.[1] APOE regulates cognitive behaviour, and hence related to neurocognitive disorders that are influenced by HIV infection or Alzheimer′s disease.[1][3]
