General description

The antibody pair provided in this kit detects Human IL-18 in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants, and urine. Interleukin-18 (IL-18) is a proinflammatory cytokine, expressed in most of the mammalian tissues including adipose, liver and skeletal muscle. It is generated as pro-IL-18 which undergoes cleavage to form a mature IL-18 possessing the signal peptide. IL-18 induces Th1 (T helper cell 1) lymphocyte action mediated by interferon-γ. It controls the metabolism of lipids and glucose. Inflammasome activation is responsible for IL-18 release, which is a significant event in response to viral infection. Increased level of IL-18 is observed in kidney and liver disease, diabetes, atherosclerosis, autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis and asthma. It is also associated with the development of renal dysfunction.

Application

For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
Please refer to the attached General ELISA KIT Procedure (sandwich, competitive & Indirect ELISA)
Human IL18 / Interleukin-18 ELISA Kit has been used to evaluate the macrophage cytokines production in response to trans-stilbene and terphenyl compounds. It has also been used to analyze and measure IL-18 levels in the urine of chronic kidney disease patients.
