General description

Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) is a 42-amino acid gastrointestinal regulatory peptide, expressed in K cells of the small intestine and in cells of the submandibular salivary gland.[1]

Immunogen

Gastric Inhibitory Peptide (GIP), synthetic peptide

Application

Gastric inhibitory peptide has been used in enzyme immunoassay.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

In the presence of glucose, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) induces insulin secretion.[1] It acts as an antagonist of the human GIP receptor.[3] Aberrations in GIP are associated with visceral fat accumulation.[4]
