General description
Human peptide YY (PYY) is a 36 amino acid peptide secreted by mucosal L cells in the distal ileum, colon and rectum. The gene encoding PYY is localized on human chromosome 17q21.1.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Y2/Y5 Neuropeptide Y receptor agonist. Human peptide YY (PYY) has roles in energy homeostasis, food ingestion, gut motility and insulin secretion. The protein suppresses appetite. It has been associated with obesity and type 2 diabetes.

1. We have characterized pharmacologically the receptor subtype(s) responsible for the neuropeptide Y (NPY)-induced vasoconstriction in human cerebral arteries. NPY, PYY and several of their derivatives with well defined affinities at the known Y1 and Y2 receptor subtypes were used.
