Gene Information

General description

The PTX3 (pentraxin 3) gene is mapped to human chromosome 3q25.32. The protein is localized in mesenchymal cells, endothelial cells of vascular tissue, fibroblasts, monocytes and granulocytes.

Immunogen

a synthetic peptide corresponding to human PTX3 (amino acids 110-124) conjugated to BSA.

Application

Anti-PTX3 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

PTX3 (pentraxin 3) is associated with humoral immune response and inflammatory processes, and therefore offers protection against pathogenic antigens. Proinflammatory cytokines, microbes and signals derived from damaged tissue triggers the expression of the gene upon stimulation. It serves as a biomarker for a number of inflammatory vascular and autoimmune disorders, including vasculitis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and cardiovascular diseases. PTX3 is involved in tumor progression by participating in proliferation and invasion steps, which were observed in glioma.
