The new Mannitol Assay Kit, MAK514, is now available! D-Mannitol is a common sugar alcohol (polyol) produced by many organisms including bacteria, fungi, and plants. D-Mannitol serves as a carbon storage compound, an osmoregulating agent, and antioxidant by protecting against reactive oxidative species (ROS). Mannitol is commonly used in food manufacturing as a reduced-calorie sweetener. The sugar alcohol L-arabitol also acts as a substrate for this assay; therefore, this kit can be used to measure L-arabitol.
Application
D-Mannitol Colorimetric Assay Kit has been used to assess the intracellular mannitol content in samples.[1]
Suitability
Suitable for the detection of D-Mannitol/L-Arabitol in plant tissues, fungi, bacteria, food, juices, other beverages, etc.
Principle
The D-Mannitol Colorimetric Assay kit provides a simple and direct procedure for measuring D-mannitol in a variety of samples, including fruit and juices. D-Mannitol concentration is determined by a coupled enzyme assay, which results in a colorimetric (450 nm) product proportional to the D-mannitol present.

Cold-acclimation is essential for the development of adequate frost-hardiness in cereals and therefore sudden freezes can cause considerable damage to the canopy. However, timely adding of an appropriate signal in the absence of cold acclimation may also harden wheat for
