Biochem/physiol Actions

Leptin receptor (OB-R) is a single membrane-spanning receptor most related to the gp-130 signal-transducing component of the IL-6 receptor, the G-CSF receptor and the LIF receptor. OB-R, also known as B219, is expressed in the yolk sac, early fetal liver, enriched hematopoitic stem cells and in a variety of lymphohematopoietic cell lines. OB-R is also expressed at high levels in adult reproductive organs. OB-RL action in hepatic cells may be equivalent to that of IL-6 receptor. Leptin does not play a specific role in muting insulin action on hepatoma cells and may not contribute to the diabetic symptoms associated with obesity.
Leptin receptor is important for regulating appetite and energy expenditure.[1] The neuroendocrine hormone, leptin, works through leptin receptor. In humans and mice, problems in expression of leptin or leptin receptor are associated with obesity.[2]

Leptin receptor (LEPR) signaling controls appetite and energy expenditure. Somatotrope-specific deletion of the LEPRb signaling isoform causes GH deficiency and obesity. The present study selectively ablated Lepr exon 1 in somatotropes, which removes the signal peptide, causing the loss of

Leptin is an adipokine that regulates metabolism and plays an important role as a neuroendocrine hormone. Leptin mediates these functions via the leptin receptor, and deficiency in either leptin or its receptor leads to obesity in humans and mice. Leptin
