Gene Information

human ... KIF22(3835)

General description

The gene KIF22 (kinesin family member 22) encodes a kinesin-like protein family member that is found to be expressed in human bone, cartilage, joint capsule, ligament, skin, and primary cultured chondrocytes. The gene is mapped to human chromosome 16p11.2.

Immunogen

purified human hKid.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Kinesins hydrolyze ATP to generate energy for molecular motors. The gene KIF22 (kinesin family member 22) encodes a chromokinesin that has the ability to bind to both DNA and microtubules. This mitotic motor protein functions in spindle assembly and proper chromosome segregation during mitosis. It is found to be associated with Chfr (check point protein with FHA (forkhead-associated domain) and RING domains), a ubiquitin-protein isopeptide E3 ligase that is crucial for the control of early mitotic checkpoint.

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium axide.
