Gene Information

mouse ... Jsrp1(71912)

General description

The gene Jsrp1 (junctional sarcoplasmic reticulum protein 1), also referred to as JP45, encodes an integral protein that contains a predicted cytoplasmic domain, an intralumenal domain that is rich in positively charged amino acids, preceded by a single transmembrane segment. The mRNA has been detected in 17-day-old mouse embryos, with increased expression during the second month of postnatal development. Its expression decreases 3-fold during aging. The protein is localized to the junctional sarcoplasmic reticulum.

Immunogen

rabbit skeletal muscle triads.

Biochem/physiol Actions

The gene Jsrp1 (junctional sarcoplasmic reticulum protein 1) encodes an integral protein component of the junctional face membrane of the skeletal muscle sarcoplasmic reticulum. It is found to associate with Cav1.1 (voltage-dependent Ca2+ channel) and calsequestrin, a luminal Ca2+-binding protein. The complex formed by Jsrp1 and Cav1.1 is found to be decreased with age and has been linked to decayed muscle strength and physical disability in the elderly. Knock-out of this gene in young mice results in decreased expression of Cav1.1 and diminished muscle strength.

Physical form
