General description

U6 snRNA-associated Sm-like protein LSM8 or N-α-acetyltransferase 38, NatC auxiliary subunit (NAA38) is an RNA processing protein.

Application

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. Biochem/physiol Actions

U6 snRNA-associated Sm-like protein LSM8 or N-α-acetyltransferase 38, NatC auxiliary subunit (NAA38) forms a RNA processing complex along with LSM2 and SmD1-16K. It mediates U4/U6 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) annealing by interacting with U6 snRNA. It also regulates the concentration of other LSM proteins in the nucleus. Studies have shown that when LSM8 concentrations are more, there is a loss of processing bodies (P-bodies) and its depletion leads to an increase in P-bodies.
