Gene Information

human ... INHBA(3624)

General description

INHBA (Inhibin, β A) is a morphogen belonging to the TGFβ superfamily. It encodes a protein reffered to as activin A. It is expressed in both α- and β-cells of pancreatic islets. It is composed of two nearly anti-parallel activin A monomers separated by a 2-fold symmetry axis. Each monomer consists of the canonical TGF-β fold.

Immunogen

Inhibin beta A chain Precursor recombinant protein epitope signature tag (PrEST)

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

INHBA (Inhibin, β A) is associated with various cellular activities such as cell differentiation, proliferation, activation and apoptosis. It has binding affinity for both the type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptors. INHBA directly binds to the extracellular domain of the type II receptor, ActRIIB, which further adhere to the outer edges of the activin finger regions. It controls genetic expression of islet β cells. In non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), it acts as an autocrine factor in the maintenance of mesenchymal properties of cancer-initiating cells (CICs) to promote metastasis.

Features and Benefits

Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.

Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
  • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
  • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.

Linkage

Corresponding Antigen APREST84518.
