General description

PTPRT (protein tyrosine phosphatase, receptor type, T) is a type II receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase belonging to the RPTPμ/κ phosphatase subfamily. It consists of a MAM (meprin/A5-protein/PTPmu) domain near the N-terminal, an immunoglobulin-like domain, four fibronectin type III repeats, a single transmembrane domain, and a large juxtamembrane segment and two phosphatase domains at the intracellular end. In humans, it is located to the chromosome 20 and expressed in the central nervous system (CNS) specifically in the brain and spinal cord.

Application

Biochem/physiol Actions

PTPRT (protein tyrosine phosphatase, receptor type, T) presence in CNS (central nervous system) may prove its functional importance in both signal transduction and cellular adhesion. Somatic mutations in PTPRT gene cause colorectal cancers. It has been reported that mutated PTPRT influences tyrosine phosphorylation, which further reduces phosphatase activity.
