Application

All Prestige Antibodies Powered by Atlas Antibodies are developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project and as a result, are supported by the most extensive characterization in the industry.

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. Biochem/physiol Actions

The gene CDH18 (cadherin 18) encodes a type II (atypical) cadherin belonging to the cadherin superfamily, which consists of single pass transmembrane proteins. These proteins mediate cell-cell adhesion in a calcium-dependent manner by linking the cytoskeletons of adjacent cells. Apart from the single pass transmembrane domain, atypical cadherins contain five extracellular domains, a transmembrane region and an intracellular β-catenin-binding domain. The atypical cadherins lack the HAV cell adhesion recognition sequence that is present in type I cadherins. CDH18 expression is found to be downregulated in human azoospermic testes with abnormal tight junction of the Sertoli-germ cells. Therefore, this protein may function in the development and progression of azoospermia.
