Gene Information

human ... TXN2(25828)

General description

The gene TXN2 (Thioredoxin 2) is mapped to human chromosome 22q13.1. The encoded protein is 166-amino acids long containing a mitochondria localization sequence at the N-terminal. It also contains a conserved thioredoxin active site and has a molar mass of 18kDa. It is predominantly expressed in heart, muscle, kidney, and adrenal gland.

Immunogen

Thioredoxin, mitochondrial precursor recombinant protein epitope signature tag (PrEST)

Application

Anti-TXN2 antibody produced in rabbit, a Prestige Antibody, is developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project . Each antibody is tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues. These images can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. The antibodies are also tested using immunofluorescence and western blotting.[1] To view these protocols and other useful information about Prestige Antibodies and the HPA, visit sigma.com/prestige.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Thioredoxin, mitochondrial is a protein encoded by the TXN2 gene in humans. Thioredoxin 2 is a small redox protein that plays an important role in cellular antioxidant defenses, as well as in the regulation of apoptosis. It possesses a dithiol-reducing enzymatic activity with mammalian thioredoxin reductase and NADPH. It is resistant to oxidation when compared to Trx1. It interacts with specific components of the mitochondrial respiratory chain and plays a crutial role in the regulation of the mitochondrial membrane potential. TXN2 is expressed in mitochondria and may directly protect it by preventing depolarization. Thioredoxin 2 interacts with mitochondrial transcription factor A (mtTFA) and facilitates its binding to damaged DNA. It also functions as an antioxidant.[1]

Features and Benefits

Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.

Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
  • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
  • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.
