Gene Information

Application

Heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) from bovine brain has been used as a protein standard in Western blotting to check levels of the Hsp70 family proteins in honey bees after heat exposure.[1] It has been used as a standard for the quantification of HSP70, obtained from liver sections of rats, by ELISA (enzme-linked immunosorbent assay).[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

HSPs (heat shock proteins) are needed for protein folding, protein assembly, protein aggregation and protein transport. They help in maintaining cellular homeostasis and offer cytoprotective effects.[3] Hsp70 is associated with the protective effects on rat myocardial cells in presence of heat stress.[4] Similarly, it offers neuro-protection from oxygen-glucose deprivation injury.[5]
