ADFP (adipose differentiation-related protein) is a mammalian lipid droplet protein, which coats lipid droplet surfaces. It is however absent from mature white adipocytes. It is also called perilipin 2 (PLIN2), and is a member of the PAT (perilipin, adipophilin, and the tail-interacting protein 47kDa) family of proteins, which includes five members. It has a predominant expression in skeletal muscles, in type I fibres.

Immunogen Sequence: GI # 34577059, sequence 241-437
Recombinant adipose differentiation-related protein
Application
Anti-ADFP (ab2) antibody produced in chicken is suitable for western blotting analysis at a dilution of 1:500, for tissue or cell staining at a dilution of 1:200.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Adipose differentiation-related protein (ADFP) plays a novel role in the regulation of macrophage autophagy during lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. ADFP is the most abundant lipid droplet (LD)-associated protein found in non-adipose tissue and its expression correlates with intracellular lipid accumulation. Its polymorphism may affect its function and influence the development of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. It has been observed that prolonged endurance-type exercise training increases the expression of ADFP leading to increases in intramuscular triglyceride (IMTG) content in a type I muscle fiber-type specific manner in type 2 diabetes patients.
Physical form
Solution in phosphate buffered saline containing 0.02% sodium azide.

Perilipin 2 (PLIN2) is the most abundant lipid droplet (LD)-associated protein in nonadipose tissue, and its expression correlates with intracellular lipid accumulation. Here we identified a missense polymorphism, Ser251Pro, that has major effect on protein structure and function, along with
Human aging is associated with a progressive loss of muscle mass and strength and a concomitant fat accumulation in form of inter-muscular adipose tissue, causing skeletal muscle function decline and immobilization. Fat accumulation can also occur as intra-muscular triglycerides (IMTG)

Autophagy is an essential process for breaking down macromolecules and aged/damaged cellular organelles to maintain cellular energy balance and cellular nutritional status. The idea that autophagy regulates lipid metabolism is an emerging concept with important implications for atherosclerosis. However, the

All eukaryotic organisms store excess lipid in intracellular lipid droplets. These dynamic structures are associated with and regulated by numerous proteins. Perilipin 2, an abundant protein on most lipid droplets, promotes neutral lipid accumulation in lipid droplets. However, the mechanism
