Gene Information

human ... PPBP(5473)

General description

PPBP (pro-platelet basic protein), also called CXCL7 (chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 7), is synthesized as a pro-peptide, which has a molecular weight of 14kDa. It undergoes proteolytic cleavage to produce multiple forms with different biological activities. The longest form produced post cleavage is called PPBP or LDGF (leukocyte-derived growth factor), and is a mitogen for fibroblast cells.

Immunogen

Immunogen Sequence: GI # 4505981, sequence 50-96
Recombinant pro-platelet basic protein

Application

Anti-Platelet Basic Protein antibody produced in chicken is suitable for western blotting analysis at a dilution of 1:500, for tissue or cell staining at a dilution of 1:200.

Biochem/physiol Actions

PPBP (pro-platelet basic protein), also called chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 7 (CXCL7), plays a role in immune response of human phagocytes against the intracellular bacteria. It is found at a significantly higher level in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, which is a chronic inflammatory disease. CXCL7 may act as a helper marker in the follow-up and treatment of developing cardiovascular risk.
