Biochem/physiol Actions

Dual specificity mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 1 is an enzyme encoded by the MAP2K1 gene in humans and its signaling is one of the most important mechanisms for the cytoplasmic transduction of extracellular signals. MAP2K1 is mapped between chromosomes 15q22.1 and q22.33. It is induced with G2 phase MAPK pathway activation. MAP2K1 is associated with extracellular signal regulated kinases pathway and is involved in regulation of multiple cellular processes that include the cell cycle. Its inhibitors can partially modulate the expression of interferon-stimulated genes.

The primary endpoint of signalling through the canonical Raf-MEK-ERK MAP kinase cascade is ERK activation. Here we report a novel signalling outcome for this pathway. Activation of the MAP kinase pathway by growth factors or phorbol esters during G2 phase

The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling cascade is one of the most important mechanisms for the cytoplasmic transduction of extracellular signals. We report the chromosomal localization of the human MEK1, MEK3, MEK4 and MEKK5 genes, involved in the MAPK cascade.
